Billy Sims Endorses Coleman A. Young II for United States Congress

Detroit – Detroit Lions running back Billy Sims today announced that he is supporting Coleman A. Young II for United States Congress.

“Politics and football have much in common; both require agility, teamwork and vision,” Sims said in a statement. “Coleman was able to develop these skills at an early age as a high school and college running back, skills that have served him well as a State Legislator. He has passed more bills into law than any other candidate in the race and with this in mind, I strongly support Coleman A. Young II for Congress!”

During his time in the Legislature, Senator Young has passed eleven bills into law, including HB 4327, the Tisha Prater Act, which stopped discriminatory employment practices against female police officers and pregnant women. This important piece of legislation passed unanimously and was the first time that Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, the ACLU and Michigan Right to Life came together in one room during the Governor's signing of the bill into law.

Young stated, “Now more than ever, it is important that we have a voice in Congress that can stand up to our President and make sure our voice is heard. I am honored to have the support of such an accomplished member of our community and cannot wait to get to work!”

The 13th Congressional District includes the cities of Ecorse, Garden City, Highland Park, Inkster, Melvindale, Redford Township, River Rouge, Romulus, Wayne, Westland, as well as portions of Detroit and Grosse Pointe Shores. The Primary Election is August 7.
